Welcome to the 11th Asian American and Pacific Islander Arts and Culture
This year we have updated the title to the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) to include those of Pacific Islander heritage. The AAPI Arts and Culture Exhibition started in 2009 as a grassroots effort to bring unity and awareness to the cultural diversity in the Tri-Cities. Throughout the years, this month-long exhibition has been a successful collaborative experience. In the past, this exhibition highlighted various art forms including photography, visual art, paper-cutting, puppetries, prints, dance, drama, and martial arts.
This year will look a bit different as we host a virtual and in-person exhibit. Though not the same as a traditional art exhibition, we felt compelled to still put together a show despite the challenges imposed by COVID.
The theme for this show is, Telling AAPI Stories. This exhibit has always been about highlighting AAPI art and culture as well as the person behind the work. In response to how the pandemic impacted the presence of art and culture, as well as the increasing occurrences of crimes against Asian people around the globe, it is vital to highlight the art and cultural vibrancy in the AAPI community.
